Wood Texture

Hello to all, this is my fist post...so be patience with my poor English

So, I was workin' on some generic wood tablet texture, to use on windows, railing, fences, and so on...
This texture was build after reading some wood creation tutorials, and was done entirely in Photoshop (apart some noise brushes taken from real photos).

I'll create the normal map for this texture soon.

So, let me know what do you think about.

thanks for reading

Very Cool Texture. Might I ask where you found that wood tutorial?

The actual base texture looks good, but I am not too sure about the scratches. I know what brush you used, and it doesnt really seem to work good there. Scratches on wood are usually indents or gashes that got knocked off...it doesnt really scratch the same as metal...well in fact it doesnt scratch the same.

Take off the scratches and the middle textures would look good in my opinion. But the ones on the right...not quite sure whats going on there, doesnt seem real to me. I'm not skilled enough in wood textures to be able to pinpoint it and tell you how to fix it, so maybe someone who is could do that for me

Otherwise its a pretty nice lookin texture, I wanna see it on a model now!

Very nice wood grain you painted...I too am interested in the tutorial(s) you used to achieve the wood from hand paint...

I agree with retardedmonkey though, the scratches look odd on the right. Could be that the painted area look just as glossy/smooth as the wood grain itself. Looking like a great start though.

wood tutorilals > http://st.burst.cc/

about the texture, turn off scratches & add some desaturation filter on the whole texture.

cheers

Thank to all for the c&c

So, retardedmonkey, you're right, the scratches are bad. and must be redone.
I'll post some updates when I'll do that.

Could use some sharpness, but then again it all depends on what you want to use it for? Realistic game environment = desaturate a little, Next-gen game environment = normal & specs map instead of diffuse lighting. Endless amount of different critcism can be given, all valid given the right context. So you need to define that for us Thanks!

I wish to use this texture in a next-gen realtime environment, within photographic (and postprocessed) textures.

Then I suggest you create a normal map, weaken the shadow/burns and add a spec map. Next-gen only rolls with style You'll be amazed with the results, even in your 3d viewport. We have spotlight tutorials that cover all these aspects together.
