I was messing around with fire particles in CryEngine2 yesturday and I noticed they have a large amount of pre set particle effects, do you think it would be looked down on if I used some of the steam effects on pipes? I mean, I could figure out how to use the particle system and make my own, but is it worth the time? I think it might help set the scene.
I can understand having to make my own decals as I might be required to do it in industry, but surly the effects would be done by the effects department? Its nice been able to say "this scene is completely custom built" do you think I would be lieing if I added the effects and still said it was custom? Hmmmm.... Oh ye and I have some decal work to do on this and polishing up and fine tuning lighting and such, but I had a problem with my hard drive, my girlfriend knocked it on the floor (i travel around a lot so use a portable) and my last backup was 2 and a half weeks ago because I have been so busy recently and litrally just didn't find the time. Meaning I lost all my work cutting a long and painful story short, I'm getting my data back through data recovery, but its costing me around £70-£80 which isn't bad to say some companies charge £500. Although still pending, but the guy said its 95% chance. On another rambling note, I will be doing a foggy, moist, english forest scene for my next portfilo bit of work. Here is what I had in mind. So expect another thread in the next few weeks. Hoping to get some good crits as it will be my first time doing foliage so I'm going to need it :P I wanted to avoid the typical 'tropical' forest scene, its very rare you see a good old north hemesphere forest. ![]()

I don't think its a problem at all, just be sure to state that. Victor Zics used UT3 smoke and particles in his pieces to show them off and looks great! Your scene is custom build, you're only using particle assets for

.Try making a smoke particle texture and tying that to a stock Cryengine emitter, and you'll be like "I made that!". Then try making a new emitter with your smoke texture, mess around with the lifespan, scatter and rotation etc, it's not that hard really. |

I have a general idea of how it will be done but only putting it into practice will tell. I supose one side of me is rushing to get this finished and the other wants to do it myself and have pride in it. I think I will try it myself, see how it goes. Although it won't be for a while just yet, deadlines deadlines!
