I like where it’s going but it needs some sort of forward main wings. I know none of that stuff really matters in space but it looks like it would just drop out of the sky.

Yea that is something that I planned on anyways, I had tried different things and looked at several different styles of aircraft for ideas, but it is very heavy at the front -- what I'll be doing in the near future is adding the wings and then some sort of propulsion, I have inductions for the moment. Also working on that thing sticking out of the side, looks like some sort of cable, maybe adding a few more of those.

Little update,
![]() ![]() Up to 3,414 polys. I originally liked the design, but the more I looked at it, the more it seemed unrealistically possible to fly, even in space. I added in turrets on that extrusion below the cockpit, that was my original plan, but forgot to do it before my first post. This is an idea for the front wings. Pearson, thanks for the tip on the cockpit, that's something I didn't originally pay attention to, and makes the aircraft look a lot better. |

Well so far it's looking alright. But there seems to be some slight problems with the mesh. First, the poly distribution of the back fuselage is a lot more complex than the front area (like the wings). You should definitely try to even that out. You could, for example, add some more detail to the front wings.
Also, I am not sure what modeling package you are using, but certain areas (like the rim of the cockpit window and the intake vent) appear to have way too many poly. Looks like you used several edge loops or something. I would definitely try to get rid of that, you could get away with just one face then champfer the edge once. Another thing is more of a design crit. The side guns are right in front of the intake vents, which really makes the ship look strange. I would try to extend them so that they are not blocking the vent. I do still like the model though, I am a sucker for space ships.

Yea, originally I didn't expect to place any wings, I'm probably going to change them around, that's part of the reason I didn't cram a lot of work and detail, just an idea of front wings.
Yea I do have a lot of edge loops on the canopy, I've tried fixing it, but so far it's only made things worse, what I'll have to end up doing is probably just welding each vertex individually until it's solid and then remake it. By the way, I'm using Blender 2.46. Can you not tell by the cheesy wireframe mode? ![]() I'll probably do away with the side guns too, i believe the upper turrets are enough for the moment...maybe some type of ordinance is in need? --Wade |
