Don't know too much about WWII aircraft...technically I can say that the modeling is done nice and clean...I think this will be a fun aircraft to do a high res version for the normal map extraction....rivets, seams, bolts all that stuff. May I ask what your plans are for this?

Thanks a bunch Xoliul

The rear winglets... I dunno. I've got their top-down shape pretty good now, but otherwise they're still a bit wrong. I really don't think I want to put the time into remodeling them though, most people who aren't intimately familiar with the plane probably won't be the wiser. I can't wait to texture this thing.

e/ James - I have no plans right now of doing a HP. I think most of the details, being rivets and indents, will be easily paintable. For the exhaust however I will probably do a high-poly, bake it to a plane, and sew that into the normal map, so to speak.

Nice job, seems almost good now.
Final remark before you go to unwrapping: lose the extrudes for the canopy. The indent on those things will probably be less than .5 cm in real life, so there is no reason to indent them like that. You could probably lose 50 tri's there, I'd spend those on rounding the intake you added on top of the nose, which looks way too blocky now.

edit; here's a pic: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1082/...e544fd.jpg?v=0
You see the glass and metal pillars are on the same level, no indent whatsoever

And I really would consider modelling the exhaust real lowpoly. If you do a decent normalmap, you might even be able to get away with 3-5 tri's per exhaust pipe, meaning you'd ad a max of 60 in total, not too bad I think.

Thus far a really good model.

You should really check out this link, where Anders creates a P47 off of blueprints. Really accurate and takes you step by step so it may give you an idea for the canopy, etc.

Gonna skin on a 1024.

I'm leaving the canopy like it is for stylistic purposes I guess, particularly as you're not intended to be inside of it (modeling cockpits is so flightsim :P). There are some gaps in the UV should I want to squeeze in some exhaust pipes in case the normal map doesn't work out.

Might wanna detach the cockpit glass parts, that way the transition glass-metal will be sharp and not dependent on the texture resolution.
Also, did you unwrap the propeller cone as a cylinder? Distortions will be pretty extreme that way.

Since I've done a few aircraft and aircraft are "my thang" plus being a pilot who does know how to game, build his own computers and use one (haha bobbeh)I'd say the biggest thing that stands out and needs improvement are you propellor blades. Have a look at some real ones and get the idea. Then redo yours. Wingtips.. yeah you need to work with those a bit more and your radio wire is too thick. Aside from that not too bad for your first aircraft. Good luck to ya!

Actually I was apparently making a P51A

However it doesn't look like I'll be finishing this one gents. Maybe someday I'll be able to but not for now.
