And isnt that screen thingy the scope? But yeah, definitly put rails up fron and on the sides and where they would be smart, its just that the one behind that screen doesnt seem very smartly placed.

Now about that rail you have there now....couldnt you cut alot of polies down if you normal mapped the grooves into the rail. Just wondering if that would be a way to go. Its lookin cool tho, keep it comin
BUIS are quite common in use

maybe he uses the rail to attach the grenade launcher to the gun and is it fixed at only one point. Just like the rail system in tis example (but think of the rail system as that grenade launcher)

Ok schuey I see what your saying about the fact that the rail is used in todays guns. But all I am questioning is, if a sight is the only thing that can go on that rail, what is the point of it when you have the built in scope right in front of it? I would think if this gun is so futuristic, that scope built in would be far more superior to anything added on there. Its no big deal I just wanted to let you know why I thought there wasnt much point to it. Rest of the gun is lookin good tho.

you have a decent, point, but if a the rifle was as futuristic as you like it to be would it have :
- a rail system that excists now
- a scope that is derived from an Eotech model 551

I didnt say he has to put on a buis, just tried to point out that the rail is not entirely useless. And when youre in a combat situation, and the batteries of youre super advanced scope die, and you dont have any spares, thank god for the backup rear sight!

I agree on how the gun is quite well thought, although Im having serious doubts about the grenade launcher though. I think he should take the m203 for example and make it work like that, the way its done now doesnt fit the gun at all, and its system is not as 'strong and sturdy' as the rest of the gun.

It's EOTech-ish.. but EOTechs are very superior sights, so why not base it on that? And I can see the 20MM RIS/RAS rail being around for a long time, changing that would mean many manufacturers would haveto change thier designs, doesn't seem like a rational decision, it's not broke, so they won't fix it .

Concept is cool, but the receiver could have more curves (very blocky atm), check out the M14 for a little inspiration

Its a little worrying how much some of you guys know about guns

Great model so far, as for the rail argument - as it is a futuristic weapon I think you should design the gun to look good, rather than practical in the real world or based on an actual weapon that exists now, and in my opinion rails always look cool

you certainly have a point. But, if you model something on there, it should be functional. If a part has no function, it has no purpose, if it has no purpose, its obsolete.

And knowledge about the subject you are modelling helps, doesn't matter what the subject is.

I agree with Requiem2d that the receiver is rather blocky - the magazine also looks too thin if you compare it to the size of the grips (the front of the gun suggests a reasonable caliber round, and yet the magazine is tiny!)
