MP5 Navy (+ pictures of naked women)

For which Engine - If I could get it into an engine like Source, that would be fair win.
Current Polycount - 3026
Max Polycount - 3500

I'm working on an MP5 as a practice model for creating 1st person weapons. Its not exactly next-gen in terms of polycount, but I want something fairly simple to work on whilst I practice my texturing and unwrapping skills (strangely enough, this model has taught me how to unwrap. Before starting work on this I hadn't a clue how to even set about unwrapping anything more complex than a cube).

Hit me with your critique sticks.
(pad them in foam first, I dare you.)

p.s: There are no pictures of naked women in this thread. I lied.

You drew me in with the pictures of naked women then smashed my hopes on the rocks. Damn you!

Nice model, the but of the gun looks too long, may just be me though.

The butt of the gun does look a lil off, but not sure it is the length. I think it is more that it looks slightly out of place given its simple geometry versus the rest of the gun which is nicely detailed.

The length of the weapon should be almost bang on. I used a reference image mapped to a plane as a guide.

However, I think that you may be right when you mention that the stock looks 'wrong' because of the lack of detail. I'll add something to give it a bit of visual interest, even though in a game engine it probably wouldn't get that much screen time.

Cheers.

UPDATE: Here's a quick turntable of the weapons silhouette.

A lot of props are way wrong.. rear sight, most top parts aren't wide enough.
I would provide you with pictures of my airsoft version.. but it's on pieces

Don't reduce anything on the stock. It's the closest thing to your eyes in-game. If you take anything off, at least do it on the bottom. By the same reasoning you shouldn't worry about the handle or trigger guard as they will generally be well-obscured. As for the fire selector, it looks to me like it has a greater edge density on its curves than the side of the receiver, and that doesn't make too much sense; I'd say either bump up the sides on the receiver or lower the tris on the fire selector.

Also, I agree with AnimeAngel that the whole thing seems a bit elongated. This might be an optical illusion created by a certain few details being too long, like maybe the barrel and whatever that thing that's between the rear sights and the charging handle is.

Also your rear sight is kinda wrong, and it's one of the iconic features of the MP5. This is a good shot of it. If you were planning to alpha map the holes I guess it's alright but some of the topology is still a bit off.

Oh and one more thing in advance, you might be able to squeeze the magazine into a 1:2 map, as it's significantly more tall than it is wide.

Good start though

When the gun is in the reloading animation, you might see the trigger guard, trigger, and handle. Play bf2 and reload, it's all very visible.

It definitely needs a proportion check as other people mentioned.

There's more than one way to animate a reload.
