workflow test: vending machine

Ok im making some props for a game at the moment and wanted to see how quickly i could get a good one finished from start to finish (well nearly finished), i played around with this for about 3 hours i suppose tonight whilst watching "the talented mr ripley" which was quite good, but enough with the movie review, er heres the stats:

triangles: 127 (not including cans)
textures: 1024x1024 = normal, spec, diffuse (will prob downsize spec)

heres a pic:

and a wire

The engine its for doesnt support specular maps jsut yet but it may do so i stuck one in quickly, so that may be revised. Also the blue texture is kind of just a base coat - i want some advertising or something on there so it doesnt look so plane, comments and suggestions welcome

Keep this up. I'm also saving alot of stuff that can be used ingame
Some remarks maybe. The whole to take the drink looks to small to me. Looking at some standard vending machines they are usually bigger and lower at the machine.
Texture needs word too.

Good luck!

I think you did a fairly good job there. The model looks ok, maybe you should change some stuff here and there, but nothing big. (like the part where you take the can from the machine, looks a bit messy at first glance).

The texture can use some more work. It's kinda hard to crit with no texture sheet, but i think the texture needs more depth information. Some OA here and there wouldn't hurt for places like the metal border that goes around the addvertisement board. (like here).

And something that you might want to pay attention to is material definition. Like the metal border around the advertisement, everybody knows that it's supposed be metal, but it doesn't realy look like metal. (subtle highlight, maybe painted black with some scratches, etc)...

Either way, keep it up. It's the road to succes

Thx alot for your comments guys, very much appreciated!

Theologic - i knew what you meant about the size of the machine, so i made the hole wider, i had a playwith moving it down a little too but it just didnt seem to look right, the placement matches the ref of an old coke machine i used so i guess ill leave it (plus it saves me having to re uv the front )

Doylle - i saw your point about the topology on the drink hole, i must have forgotten to re-adjust it after i cloned it from the high poly version i made for the normals - ive changed it now though and the tri count is now 115
i had a look at the textures but mainly focused on making an advert to go on the front, i wasnt sure what you meant by OA, but looked at the pic (thx btw) and thought maybe it was a typo and u meant ambient occlusion? so i overlayed a map to add a bit of depth between the metal border and the front advert.
i also added a more obvious highlight with some scratches to the metal border and a self illumination map on the front and buttons

Let me know what you think

Looks allright, but I think pepsi would've fit better into the blue.

hey thx Jimi, but as its for a game i cant put any trademarks or IP on the texture without permission, i think ill get away with the "popsi" and "cook" on the buttons as theyre small and obviously poking fun at pepsi and coke but i cant use any actual names
