yup, i agree, the texture was done super quick. i unwrapped, and textured the cat in about an hour. yea, i could go nuts, and work on the textures more, i would like to, but i just dont have the time. right now my priority is time management, so i will skimp where i can. from a relative distance the cat will look just fine for the moment. if i get a chance, i will get back to it

no, ao maps are really not feasable at the moment. same reason as going further on cat textures.
the world textures we are using are from my texture packs, which have diffuse, specular and normal maps. we dont have the time to go back through them all and do height maps and AO maps, although yes, this would improve the overall fidelity, it would put our schedual out by an order of magnitude.

the suggestions are real great, and i wish i could take them on and do them, but we are under enormous pressure as it is. i am getting between 2 and 4 hours sleep a night. my priority, is speed, with a reasonable level of concistancy. i know this sounds like a cop-out, and that i just dont want to listen, but it isn't.

anyway, thanks for the feedback. advice is always great, and it is always taken on board, even if i cant make the changes advised.

in about the next month. its our end of year project for college. we are ahead of the other teams, but our project is vastly larger and more complicated. we are on track, but i have to keep us there. we dont need a finished game, but we need to have all the main elements of the game done and working.

I was reading the back story for the game on the blog you guys have, and the game play sounds very interesting and a bit different.

You guys only have till next month? Is that when college ends for you, we have till the start of May which is approaching very fast yet most of the class have not started there FMP's lol.

it is indeed an intersting game concept. especially when you take the moral ramifications of using children in this context, well, if you dont want to go all "rockstar" on it. we cant have any overt violance. yet at the same time we have to create a high level of "threat". it will be a tough challenge.
as re; time, a month is a ballpark figure, when you calculate in the holidays, as i will be in berlin then, and probably away up a mountain for another bit of it, and of course our project is due in a good bit before the end of college for the year.

hey sarge, look into the dare comp yourself for next year or the year after. or if you like, come down to the launch day in dublin next thursday. if you wanna do that, we can put you up for the night and make sure you dont get eaten by junkies and all that

Thanks for the offer. Don’t think I will be able to get down, but thanks all the same. Yea I must check out Dare next year.

Do you guys plan to finish this up as a retail game after dare, or somthing like that? It’s one of the more interesting games I have seen in Ireland.

I need to post my FMP up here, Unreal is being an Ass ATM, does not want to do anything but crash.

yes, we have a "post Dare" business plan that is looking pretty good at the moment. there are a few key areas that need to fall into place, but so far so good. fingers crossed. it really would be a treat to get something happening in ireland apart from gimmicky crap and vapourware.

I though dark water was onto something good but after seeing their current title I am not so sure. Suppose we will find out next month went the beta is suppose to come out.

A lot of good developers have come out of Ireland the lead level desinger on Motorstorm for example and a programer on the new SEGA Rally (at least i think thats what he does) etc etc.

oh yea, some tallent has come from here, but the point is they all had to go elsewhere to get anything done.

ya, darkwater broke my heart with that piece of rubbish they are doing. i had high hopes for them. the concept is BORING, their art is totally without style, and they are slow as houses.
i dont wanna have to go to the states to get a job, in fact i will never go to the states, but i like ireland, i have lived abroad, and i prefer here. so i want to work here. there is loads of funding in ireland for up and coming studios, but efforts so far has exploited the funding schemes without showing results. i get depressed even thinking about it. dreadnought?? BORING. only Havok and popcap are interesting, and neither are a potential employer of artists.

anyway, rant over .
