What Zach's up to...

It's about time I start taking this art business a bit more seriously. To that end I've decided to make this thread to show whoever might be interested what it is I've been up to.

I've got a lot of work to do to get my skills up to spec, especially my sketching and texturing skills. Hopefully I'll show some marked improvement over the next few months here.

This is what I did yesterday:

I used my entry into the speed model comp as a base, made a high res version, and textured it. I think it came out pretty well for me actually. I'm going to texture my second speed model comp entry tomorrow hopefully.

Good start. Somehow the texture model doesn't look textured, not sure why it feels like that. Maybe the ref you used looked like that so I might be wrong (bad ref in that case )
I also see some unfinished work on your portfolio, it would be nice to see you finish all of those here Good luck and looking forward to help out

Although I was using this ref more for inspiration than a direct copy, these are the textures I was going for. I don't feel tied to the ref though, I'll play around with it. Try different types of wood and stuff. Looking at it now, a darker wood might help balance out the contrast with the tv there.

By the way andrei313, I've been following 313 Models for some time now, high quality stuff there man.

Little update here:

Hey man. I was just going to say try a darker wood. Either way, nice work thus far.

Hey, thanks And I'm only at #005... wait till I get to 313 and you'll see how well I progressed

The texture is better now, it looks more like wood. Since it's new (as in not old)... a specular would give it that shine that makes everything look real (everything that reflects )
Btw, love the bed you made... waiting to see it textured

The bed's certainly coming along. I've just wrapped up the high poly version, now I've just got to render out a normal and AO map and I can get to texturing.

I'm also still trying to get the tv cabinet to a finished product. Usually I just take the diffuse map, greyscale it and add contrast to metal pieces to make a spec map. I'll see if I can find some good reading on the topic and start getting better results.

Wow the bed looks realy nice. But the TV is wrong, it needs to be wider, and how mutch depends on different TV's so look up older TV's (the screen doesn't seem to be flat so i take it's from befor 2000) and check on the ratio it has. You probably need 4:3 (width and height).

Good luck!

Starting the texture on the bed now, not nearly done yet.

I think I'm going to try to fill out a full room or two worth of props so that I can stick them all together for a nice render. So I'm going to try to keep all of the furniture here in pretty much a matching theme if I can manage. A kind of old-fashioned-modern cabin look (if you can understand that ).

nice wood texture on the bed, I really like it, the whole thing looks very realistic but I would spend a few more triangles on the pillows to shape them a bit more.
