Tau Firewarrior

For which Engine Unreal
Current Polycount 3400
Max Polycount 8-10k
Texture Size combination of 1024s and 2048s
Description of background information on piece - the high res of this model is for a friend who intends to print it out and paint it, the low res is heading for a warhammer 40k MOD using the unreal engine
Where are you looking to receive criticism - anything, batter in

I thought I would start a wip thread for this guy to keep me motivated. This guy is based on an amazing painting by Paul Dainton but I'm trying to toughen him up a bit more and make him look a bit bigger and bulkier.

This stuff has been posted in the what you are working on thread but I'll whack it in here too.first the base for the head...

the high res head...

Oh very cool! I have a feeling this one is going to be your bestest yet

As I told you on msn, the face looks good but it is very symmetrical......very...very symmetrical

You aren't going to be making up the armor as you go...are ya? I don't remember the picture having full armor shown, however you're doin it I like the idea so far.

cheers mike, the armour is all from the original painting and various Tau references i have. This is still early blocking stages though so the proportions and sizes of parts will change a bit

The first head looks much like Nalis. The other one's scary... like someone took away the skin... looks old too.

Looking good.

I can't say I've ever been much of a fan of these guys' designs or styles, but on a technical level it's very impressive

Stunning work so far dude, instantly recognizable as Tau.

Keep at it. I think if you do this, then chances are you'll be the first person (ever) to do a high res / detail Tau model.

You're not too bad at this 3d lark are you?

Looks really good so far. I had to google to see what a Tau Firewarrior looks like though. Most of the pictures that came up had them with some sort of helmet on. Are you going to be modelling that as well, or leaving it off?

cheers for the comments, he's going to be holding his helmet under his arm, I dont really like the helmet design but in Paul Daintons painting the head is showing so it allowed me to get some organics in there. A lot of the reference of Tau guys i could find look quite pathetic so at the the risk of pissing of the entire 40k mod community I'm going to make a few changes to make him look double-hard
