funny story of how I ended up getting hired:
I saw the original post by shinobix on cg chat announcing that he and some others were opening a new studio. so I said congrats and that I was currently working on a new portfolio. (hence my lack of stuff on my site) and I guess he followed the link in my sig to my site and liked what he saw so far. At the same time I was actually doing the barrel art test and was going to do them all and then submit them and beg horribly for a job. so I got a pm from him saying they liked my stuff on my site and wanted to bring me down for a meet and greet. This blew me away and I told them of my plans to do their art test, they were cool with that but the interview was the next day so I only had time to get the barrel done. So i fired that off before I went to the interview. At the interview they said they could easily see I could do props well but were a bit unsure about my ability to do a large environment. So they gave me a week long art test and told me not to worry about the sand bags/zeplin stuff. The art test consisted of a 8 buildings layed out in a street format. cant really say the theme but 8 buildings in 1 week was pretty tight. pulled some 14 hour days, drank an enormous amount of coffee but in the end got it done and they seemed to like it. So overall Im really thankfull that this kinda seemed to plonk down in my lap, I wasn't planning on applying for any jobs for another couple months while i polished the portfolio. I think my varied background might have helped though, Teaching a 3d modeling highschool course, Helping to build training materials for Next Level Games's beijing studio, experience with 3d printing etc, all of which came from working with Bill Henderson at DXLAB. so for that opportunity I am eternally grateful. Well moral of the story seems to be posting on forums almost always yields amazing results. Cheers guys and thanks for all the congrats. Last edited by TS_Falcon; 12-01-2007 at 03:04 PM. |

Cool stuff, Chris.
Are you going to go back over the low poly and fit it closer to the shape of the sculpt? His silhouette's changed a fair bit in places. Btw, svelle, I don't think you need a watermark on that texture. I can almost guarantee you that no one will steal it. |

Tile textures like the ones on James page, the ones for Hullbreach (Darn nice ones btw ) might probobly be a good idea to watermark I guess, since anyone could make a plane and use them.. But, otherwise, is it really nessecary to watermark textures? ![]() Oh, and btw Svelle, if you want to watermark them, you should also think about repeating patterns, I could easily remove the watermark from that image, as some parts covered by the watermark is available elsewhere on the same texture. Cheers
