UEd4 comes with Unreal Tournament 3.

Saw a few of these kicking around over on Polycount as art tests with a 4 hour limit. I figured it'd make a nice project for the evening while trying to stick to the guidelines of the art test.

Don't have the actual concept so I've been modeling off the other meshes I've seen.

3.5 hours later... (45min high poly, 45min low + UV, 2hr texture). I think I'm over the target polycount a bit, though.

@Slip: The knife overall looks good, I like the smoothing group split off in the knife's grip, nice detail there. There's a problem with the sheath though. It looks like it's wooden. It's sharp edged...

@Talon: Alpha problem!

Just modo's viewport rendering. They're 1-bit alpha but it doesn't take that into account.

Thanks fabiodan. I'm working with a 3000 tri limit, so I didn't have left over tris to do the sheath, but I optimized the engravings old school style and saved nearly 1k tris. Here's the result



Talon: What you have there looks great. Especialy with the 256 texture size.

Slip: If you're limited to 3k tris, don't bother modeling the engraving at all. Spend it all on silhouette and let the textures handle tiny details like that.
