Vehicle dump
Thought i'd just throw all my current vehicle wips into one thread too keep things tidy.
All models are to be normal mapped and havn't been optimized yet. Nissan Silvia s14a - this is the hi res mesh for normal mapping. currently 212,748 tris. Vauxhall Astra - too many US police cars around so i've gone for the old school british squadie car, currently 5380 tris. Ford Transit T280 SWB - on hold until i get time to get more refs, requires lots of optimising, currently 8792 tris. Renault Clio V6 - havn't decided whether i will normal map this yet or keep it old school, currently 1996 tris. For those that don't know their cars, the pics are in order of the cars listed above. Please crit away on anything. I'll jump between models so updates when I get them.

I <3 vehicles.
They all look like good starts, tbh though I would like to see them with the turbosmooth (whatever you use). Everything looks like they will be fine once the sub-d modifier is slapped on there...so lets see that! Really not too much to crit yet since you seem to be at the beginning stage of each car...

I don't think all of those are turbosmoothed. Just midpoly, which is fine for today's heavily LOD'ed racinggames.
BTW, normalmaps for cars, I don't think that is done much these days ? From what I see, racinggames that need their cars looking awesome just have rather high polycounts, but don't rely on textures much, instead using high quality shaders. Last edited by Xoliul; 10-11-2007 at 09:12 AM. |

Been working solely on the Astra cop car, trying to get the modelling finished as quickly as possible. Not happy with the headlights at the minute. Will have to keep working at those. Not too worried about the wasted tris. They could easily be removed if necessary but i'll probably leave the mesh pretty much as is for now. Interior to come next. Need to decide whether to model the seams or experiment with a normal map, and whether I want it rigged ( ie. doors, bonnet, boot etc ), undercarriage and engine.
Currently 13,224 tris.

I've been waaaaaaaayyy too lazy, but starting to crunch back through these models now.
More work on the Astra. Working on the interior now, will post shots as soon as its done. Just over 20,000tris at present. Give me any comments / critiques, be as harsh and honest as possible please. ![]()

Honestly dude stop being lazy and get us some more updates!
Really I don't see much wrong with it...there are a few areas that look like they might have some slight smoothing errors but its really nothing bad at all. Mainly the lower curve on the side of the car before and after the door, then behind the rear wheel well. Not sure if that really is a problem, without seeing the wires, but I figured I'd let ya know ![]() The only other thing that caught my attention are the wheels, the hubcaps seem a little thin to me. If ya slap some wires up we might be able to find something wrong...but I doubt it! So just get more updates instead ![]()

Currently at 27,491 tris. Unless anyone flags something up, i'm gonna crack into unwrapping next. Throw any crits / comments at me. ![]() NOTE: I had to resize the images cos they were too awesome. Check my website for some full res piccie wiccies.
