Some M16A4 models I'm currently working on, just some more wear and tear left to add in.

Wire view
The Harris Bipod didn't render well at all with a push modifier It's original game content provided by the VBS1 dev's and all face get detached from eachother as it's extracted

Looks very realistic. But like you said, still need some wear and tear.

Nice work, keep it up

I like the M16 models, but the textures look pretty poor. Mostly due to the phototextures you used.
Things like different colourfinishes and different lighting directions are bugging me about it.

I've finally forced myself to do some work on my highpoly model again, which I'm later going to use for a normalmap. All work done in 3dsmax so far (zbrush pass also planned):

*Edit: No textures yet, just slapped a fastskin on top of that mofo

quicky diffuse/normal/spec/glow over lunch, just testing some things. The Center image has lights, all viewport screen grabs from max.

minor update: added a small bump to the light cover with nvidias after high rez normal generation

Hey I have a question about the m16's...and its probably stupid but...here it goes. Your texture is just a bunch of photos right?....and then touching them up in photoshop? Because it totally blows my mind how you guys make the guns look so good, and no matter what I try to paint they never look like that.

Not to speak for Snowfella here, but everything there looks paintable. The only advice I give on this is; Practice, a LOT!

Everything would indeed probably be paintable if you had the skills for it, sadly I don't though so I take the "easy" way out and use photos as a base instead. It does have some drawbacks though, as stated before the lightdirection on the model will almost always be screwed up and you are always going to be limited by the quality of the reference pics you have. For this model I however found some huge sideshots of the reciever, big enough that I had to scale them back to about 50% of original size for the texture.

There are a fair bit of fully painted elements in those texures though, shouldn't be all to hard to spot where those are with my limited skills to match painted to photos. Pretty much everything infront of the reciever is paimted from scratch bar the laserdesignator and railprotectors.
