The texture looks like metal but the thickness of the object makes me believe it's concrete... which is it? For consistency you might want to stick to one

I would add more dirt/mud towards the bottom of the model where it would be in contact with the ground.

If that's solid metal, you'd be looking at an extremely heavy (and expensive!) bench.
Might be an idea to thin it way down and add in some steel tubing/bracing supports running around and up the back of it. Might make it a little more interesting to look at. Also, if you're normal mapping it, it might be an idea to build a high poly mesh in order to show the nice machined curves that the mesh implies (but is too low poly to carry off on its own). |

Whats your reference bro? Really hard to make this out as a realistic bench. Dont worry about the dirt and those nubs on the normal map till you nail the base model down.
Talon really nailed down what you should be working on first. Getting a good looking high poly machined bench and then doing the normal map from that. You could just normal in some small details like you are now but I think your selling yourself short. Did a little bit of googling <- ( is that a word? ) Metal Benches Is there a reference thread somewhere here? |
