Been trying to get up to speed with hard surface high poly stuff as it is not something I have had much of an chance to do in the past. I ended up watching the first 4/5 or so eat3d dozer tutorials and got fed up so dived straight into doing my own thing
So its all very much a learning exercise for me and just a chance to get back into max having been using maya for the last few years. It's been pretty slow going I must admit but as the days have gone by my general speed + understanding of edge loops and how to get rid of triangles etc has really improved which I'm really happy about. I'm hoping to finish the highpoly for sure but right now I am not sure if i will be doing a low poly + texture. We shall see. C+C welcome ![]() |

Looking pretty sweet so far.
I have also been looking at those eat3D dozer tutorials, and they are very helpful and thorough. My two cents would be that certain parts look very blocky, even for a hard surface model. Notably some of the leg parts. Of course sometimes you want it to look like this, but I would try to add things like embossed lines (like you have on the main body) or bolts/floating geometry. That way it looks more believable, as if plates were welded or screwed together. Hopefully that makes sense. It would also be helpful if you posted a wireframe shot too (with 'isoline display' selected in max), that would help with edge flow related crits. |

They really are good tutorials and well worth splashing out on. Very comprehensive - A friend of mine did them a wile back, learnt all the good shizzle, did some of her own models and is now working at splash damage! Hard work really does pay off!
Thanks for the Crits, that top half of the leg is looking a little bland id have to agree. I'll get a bit more detail in there. I hope as well that once the arms are on there it will cover the legs up a little too. These are the fellas, ended up splashing out on a box for £20 and they have been great reference ![]() |
