@lORDMADDOG - I'm honored you'd like to learn texturing from me I don't really have a screen capture program outside of a G+ live hangout, but I'd be happy to make a video sometime. Perhaps on the next gun, now that I have more confidence in my workflow.

@ShoT - It's funny you mention that, because the client is now working it out w the programmers to have multiple skins available for the player. I'll have two colors isolated on layers, that can be switched out for the diffuse.

@tonyd927 - Those are big subjects, mate It takes practice and thorough research, really. Understanding how to get good results from UVW and bakes is all about research. Plenty of resources are available online in forums like these, only a search away. I will say that, when I bake an AO, I bake one pass for the exploded parts (usually at the same time as when I'm baking my normals), then I bake a second pass on an UNexploded mesh. I then multiply the two passes together and have a map with nice global and local occlusion. Hope this helps.

Just wanted to post an update on the texture. I'd say I'm around 70% complete. Primarily material definition so far. The rest should be detailing, with tweaks to the materials.

Sorry to sound somewhat "pedantic",b ut I don`t understand the material definition bit..It`s all just differently coloured bases atm as far as I can see bud.Definition would imply ,plastic from metal!..Assuming the sombre yellowy bits are indeed polymer. The only area of definition I see presently is the grip..Still not sure if that is just static light though..atm that is...Sill looking forward to your end result though..

@Bull - Yeah, I agree on your description of material definition. Judging by your comment, I must be farther away from my goal than I thought. Oh well. I'll keep at it.

Hey man, thanks for your nice comments on my weapon
I really like yours too! Nice hard surface work there. And the bake looks also very nice and clean. I like the color blockout, can't wait to see that baby textured completely

Would be nice to see if you could "pull of" say,A kevelar/carbon body and chassis on this weap, considering it`s futuristic look.
Possibly a light weight titanium action.Although I`m unsure of the capabilities of titanium under those kind of pressures..Worth considering & researching though?...

I’ve been working on the textures, trying to beef up the materials. I have the accent color and polish left to do, barring any crits I may receive. I’m getting there…

This is looking really nice only, my only crit would be that the Tan coloured parts all look a bit too similar maybe try adding some slight variation in the colour or spec of the different parts. Something like these:
Example1
Example2
Some of the different parts could have to be made out of a stronger plastic or maybe need to be more light weight so the look and feel could change. This is just my thoughts and im pretty ill right now so sorry if this doesnt make a lot of sense. This is looking really good, cant wait to see it finished!

Can see where your going with wear and tear on the metal,so would asssume your 20% done on that,at the most..Certainly,polymer has pretty much no contrast at present..(but your probably aware of that also.
Bugger.I`m sounding harsh...but there it is....Needs further work...If like me,I assume every texturer looking at it has their own ideas on a skin job..Still think something more "out of the box" would suit better than polymer..It`s been done, over and over...But that`s just me..Crack on m8
