Prometheus DOOM 3 mod experiment
Here I made a test level in Doom 3 of the chamber from the prometheus movie as an experiment.....work in progress, thing is there isn't really all that much to the movie to make a whole mod from, theres the main ship, the pyramid, the derelict ship and the planet surface from what I understand. thought I'd make something anyways.

Thanks Sam, the movie is just ok in my opinion but what I find neat is to make the movie into a game ..somewhat to make an experience of 'being there? since there is no game for the flick I thought I'd give it a stab.. also I realized the head is too small and have scaled it up since and is much larger now as it should be.
One important thing in game art I found is scale and proportion in relation to environments and surroundings.... nothing like having a door you have to crouch to walk through when it should be normal height ....size and scale is very important. for id tech4 I found the character size is about 76 units high to where in UDK it's 92, tiny doors still look funny if you don't consider perspective. (3ds max generic units) for player height. more later..... |

I like the lighting in the UDK one better. The white glow in Doom 4 sort of washes the stone out.
Overall, the scene seems very fitting for a game. I would like to play that level. ![]()

Although Doom 3 has great assets to work with in making a game, I may build this in UDK mainly because the movie doesn't really have any weapons so it wouldn't matter in a recreation of sorts, that being said, I have built up a level with terrain and have built a few things. with UDK at least I can add a vehicle to drive along the planet surface from the Mothership which I'm building from scratch.
I'm making it so you can walk around the inside of the ship and then go to the cargo bay to take a vehicle out to the pyramid to explore (I haven't decided what kind of action to make yet) but there may be some cut scenes with cinematics with some creatures. Here's a work in progress of the prometheus ship and some reference pics with it. The cargo bay with vehicles are done now comes the shell and interiors. ![]() ![]() and looking out from the cargo hold...yes that's a derelict ship model I made in the background, gotta fix that too. :P ![]() I'm still tweaking the headstone statue but it's getting better. I've decided that I'd like to build a version in both idtech4 and UDK , in udk for the vehicles and features and in idtech4 because I WANT SOME ACTION!!!! as I can rig and animate bad guys to fight as advarsaries like the engineer and the snakes, maybe some others...What's cool is using a companion mod to have soldiers fight along side of you, make for a compelling adventure.

This is in the juggernauts' ship where the pilot's navagation is, this is built in in idtech4.
My first thing is scripting it properly and having everything working first before I go and polish everything up with finer detailing. What's the point of looking good if it doesn't work. The animation in the .gif is speeded up only using very few frames to conserve bandwith. but I wanted to show some progress with this, later I'll make a video and post that later so you can hear the atmospherics and sounds too. keep in tune....![]() |
