UDK Cathedral Game Environment
Hey Everyone,
This is my first post in this forum. I am currently working on a gothic cathedral environment for UDK. I will post more updates as I make progress. All of the thin columns are placeholder right now. All crits are welcome. ![]() |

ahmedfawaz3d: Thanks for the comments. I will post some more renders soon, I am trying to finish a few more assets. I forgot to mention in my first post that this lighting was just a quick and dirty pass. I just duped a bunch of point lights around, there wasn't really any thought in it. I am going to do my actual light pass after I make the meshes for the actual light sources. I hope to have updates soon.

Great texture work so far, very cohiesive. I think your vaulting looks great Similar to Koeln's cathedral. First floor archways (trifourium i think :S) looks good but quite skinny. The thing that stands out to me at the moment is the Aisle windows, I try to visit cathedrals whenever I have the chance and most follow the tradition of having a 3 arched window which are quite large on average about 30 ft (I know alot of italians one don't have these though.) Also the piece under the groundfloor windows are usually about 6 foot tall and more often than not have an arched design (blind arcade) I created a cathedral a year or so ago and am going to revisit it soon as no asset was over 300 tris. good luck i think this will look awesome when its done!
Sry its so long hope it helps ! Last edited by cruckz; 16-01-2012 at 01:51 PM. |

Really nice work! Only thing that's bugging me is the coulour of your fog. I think it's too light and too much to be inside. Maybe change it to a mid brown (not too dark and not too light) and then decrease the density.
Keep it up!

Thanks to everyone for the feedback!
cruckz: Thanks for the comments. The windows are based off of a photo that I have. I will post it when I get a chance. The scale is hard to read without any props placed in yet. The section below the windows is probably about 5 feet tall. I do agree that the windows could be larger, I have been trying to decide if I wanted to scale them up a bit. I will probably wait until I have a few props in the scene to see how it looks. BWARazor: I will do some damage after I get things blocked out more. I haven't decided yet, but I may do something crazy with the altar area. ![]() AndyJB: I agree that the fog could use some tweaking. I will adjust the fog when I start doing the environment effects. Right now it is just the default fog volume that starts up in UDK. I grabbed a few more shots this morning. The lighting is still terrible and the top row of windows are placeholder. The upper ceiling isn't final either, there will be some other meshes to make it work better together. I replaced some of the placeholder assets and added some others. The meshes below the upper row of windows are coming out way too dark, I will have to trouble shoot those to see what the problem is. Ignore the horrible texture seam on the column in the second picture, I still have to paint out the seam. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
