Small update today. I started working on some ornate wall sections. I had a busy weekend and didn't get a chance to do much work. I still have to add the top section to this, then bring it into zbrush. I haven't decided if I want to make this stone or make it wood and use it in the altar area. Thoughts?

Another small update. I started making a gargoyle in zbrush. I don't do characters, so this was a little outside of my comfort zone. It is supposed to have a weathered stone look. Honest comments are much appreciated, I can take it.

I'm not sure what look you're going for, but to me it looks somewhat cartoon-esque - not sure why though. The gargoyles on Notre Dame are famous, not sure if that's what you're going for though.

owenrachel7: Thanks for the link. That isn't really the look that I was going for. I looked at tons of ref and wanted a scarier looking gargoyle. I liked this pic, but wanted a beefier look.

I am going to make some variations with different facial expressions. My biggest concern with this sculpt is that it is pretty dog-like. Your link did inspire me to put some horns on, it may help get rid of the dog look somewhat.

Well I think you are right about it have some resemblances to a dog, unfortunatly the horns may help a bit but I dont think they will take away from some of the dog features.

And if that is your rough refrence that you are using I would advise you do some of these changes:
I would lower the ears
Lower the eyes (also make them slightly less open)
The mouth/snout I would drease the width
Defining the cheek bone a little may help, and going off the refrence the eybrow bone almost looks as if it start to partially join.

Here is aPaint over that might help:

SkwigglesWorth: Thanks for the feedback and the paint over. I made the snout a little narrower and defined the cheek bones more. I also adjusted the eyes like you suggested (except in the surprised facial expression because I felt the eyes needed to be wide in that one). I made some different facial expressions and moved the ears around for different looks. Thanks for taking the time to do a paint over.
