3d doodle

I know this isn't really finished but it's the 3d equivalent of a speedpaint so I thought why not post it? If the mods feel it is in the wrong place, please move it to where it belongs. I don't mean to clutter the forum! With that out of the way...

The doodle!

A couple of hours work together with a slightly re-jiggled old wood texture = a lazy afternoon

the model is nice, but i think the textures needs more work.. it looks like that you took a picture and just put it on the uvw layout, think you could work more..
buts nice so far

I think that's what he means by speed paint - as in he was going for a quick and simple look. With a proper texture they would work really well in a game - at the moment though it's a nice model

100 tris isn't a lot... Got an image? Would be fun to see how you solved it

Nice stuff urgaffel, I really like the bench...it actually looks unique, for a bench I guess cuz you didnt just make the wood straight across, and the arms are tight.

I'm interested in how you did those springs, is it a cube and then you used an alpha map? Because they look pretty good. You should make a wip thread for your doodles, would be very interesting to follow.

Feel free to move this thread to the wip forum, I guess at the time of posting I thought of it as a one-off, then I realized that this will be my doodel depository. Speaking of which... Could you change the name of the thread to "Urgaffels 3d doodle depository"? It would be a better description.

The springs are alpha mapped on a six-sided cylinder together with a normal map. Might have gone a bit overboard there since I used a helix shape and baked it instead of painting but eh, it's all about learning I'm going to try and finish this up soon and then use it to do a part two (1.5?) of my vertex paint thing. Use vertex paint to change colour and dirty it up for example. Btw, all the cylindrical parts are either 4-sided (e.g. the tires) or 6-sided (e.g. the handlebar). Will normal map the rest too, for now only the tires, metal thing protecting from splashing above tires and the springs have normal maps.

*edit*

I updated the texture for the spokes. The circular thing is too big but the spokes look a lot better.

Love how you used the alpha for the springs, any chance of seeing the texture maps for this?
