Bullets

these are some bullets i made yesterday.
i still need to map them, but that isn`t the best side of me

If this is for a game it's not that lowpoly A 8 sided cylinder would be enough I think, it will give you faces with 45deg angle between them, you don't need more. You could use that to make a normal map for a lowpoly model.

8 sides is perfect,

besides a bullet is very small ingame so you wont see more detail then that, and a normalmap is in this case a waste of file space, even a 16x16 normalmap is not wurth it, you can better add 20 faces instead.

also make sure you use your poly's, take a look at the top of the shells, you see another segment, but in the render you totaly see no difference, just take them out, and if you look at the head itself, also a row of faces that is not used properly, better loop those edge's and move it up, so you have a smoother bullet.

in the game im working at are the bullets very important and you will see them alot

well in that case you can use more then 8 sides, maybe 12 will do the trick, but still! you need to use them better then this.

Then I guess that your game will include a slo-mo camera following the bullet whenever you do a headshot or something am I right?

I'm planning on doing something similar with my mod, where the bullet will be in focus...everything else around will be warped and blurred by post processing, and the target will be in focus, then the bullet hits the target, boom!

That's the only time I can think of needing so much detail on a single bullet.
If you're going to be firing a machine gun, and you have all these bullets being sprayed out constantly, the game is going to lag like crazy, I'm not talking about the bullet being fired, I'm talking about the case being ejected later on, there will be plenty of these high detailed cases. that you see for what...1 or 2 seconds in an animation, and then they are on the ground probably not even ever going to get looked at.

This is how I'm doing it in my mod.
When firing the gun, low poly bullets will be ejected, you can pick up low poly bullets...nothing but a flash animation will play when a bullet is fired, and that's all, when it goes into a slo-mo headshot kill thing (non multiplayer mod), the high detailed bullet will be fired from the gun and do it's little thing and look cool.

I would not suggest the slo-mo replay thing in a multiplayer mod...it's just....complicated to do unless everyone else goes slo mo at the time.

is it just me, or does the minority of people in this topic dont have a clue what the difference is between a cartridge and a bullet?

what made you make the comment about the cartridges and bullets?

Plenty of people just say bullet because well they just know bullet, better than the word cartridge, in other words, it's either being lazy, or it's because they don't know specifics.

Personaly, I don't think it matters, and since we are actually talking about bullets here, I don't think it is relevant to the topic....but anyway...continue

I just got the impressing when people started talking about high poly bullets flying around, (slowmo), bullets of 50 polies is more then enough for that purpose, thats why.

and the fact that theres no way that the sky is being filled with full cartridges flying around as some might imply.

might be the same sthing as clip versus mag, only this much more annoying :P

but im just being an asshole
