I've finally found some really good, really high-res scratch / stain / rust reference (MP44 and MG42) which is going to help a lot. Updating tomorrow. I keep thinking of this gun as having a paint layer that chips off, which I know is wrong - it's the main reason I keep feeling compelled to add damage around the seams. I'm also going to be removing about half the edge scratches, and adding in some very strong, localized metal wear around certain parts like the receiver and bipod mount.
The metal scratches are overdone, but the wood scratching is actually way underdone for a gun of this age. :/ Looks like my colors are way off, but luckily that kind of thing is easy to fix.
