Skin tones is one of the main things I have a problem with. I "understand" saturating colors, esp. skin tones trying not to make them flat, (esp. with that tutorial you directed me to, it helped a lot) But, one of the characteristics of the girl was that she is homeless, so I tried to use some browns (which had a lot of gray in them) which whacked up the skin tone, and obviously gave her the 5 a clock shadow as well.
Thanks for pointing out the arms and head, too, I was really rushing through this one, and forgot to flip the canvas, (really helps to point out mistakes when you've looked at your work for a while) So I totally went over that. Thanks again! --> Lil' update. ![]() |

Magnel: Have a look at this two-part tut on skin tones.
Ron Lemen: Skin Tones Part 1 - GFXartist.com - Served over 20,000,000 artworks Ron Lemen: Skin Tones Tutorial Part 2/Painting Heads - GFXartist.com - Served over 20,000,000 artworks My first foray into digital painting. A dude on PC linked to this PaintTool SAI program and it's really awesome, I actually feel comfortable sketching and painting with it (Photoshop's pretty horrible, I never could comfortably make the jump from paper > PS). It's as far from awesome as it is from being finished and it's based off a photograph but I was just trying to get the hang of the tools. So this is as far as I can be bothered to take it. ![]() I'll have some actual original stuff along soon, I hope. Last edited by Talon; 08-04-2008 at 04:34 PM. |

Magnel, skin tones are real tricky...one thing that could help is to simply put more light in it.
Talon, nice muscles! i made these this weekend: from reference: ![]() and from my mind: ![]() in this one, i was trying to achieve some subsurface scattering...i kinda like it, yet the colored pencil feel is terrible....how to achieve a more "painter" look in photoshop still bugs me. ![]() all painted in final size. crits are most welcome.
