This one started out as a simple black shape and became this in about two hours. I like how it turned out.

that amazing work Sean, the gold and blue works great together

Can i just ask, how do you go about developing your characters?? Do you have a definite clear idea at the start or do you just lay down blocks first and develop ideas from there?

Alchemist101 : well to begin with I try and find some good anatomy reference, That will be the starting point for most time on me, then for this particular piece I wanted a good sillouette so he would be recognizable, so began sketching out some quick shapes around my anatomy sketch which would go towards his armour allthough tried not to overdo it.

Then its amatter of researching a heap into your subject matter, actually thats what you should be doing constantly. In this way you not only get ideas but it makes you think a lot about the design of the characters armour. For instance, im going to have to have a little buddy for this guy to hold a lot of his equipment as he runs around levels due to the vast majaroity of items ninjas sometimes carry I find it a little hard to imagine him holding ecverything on his person and doing all those ninja type sneak attacks etc.

His left arm will be more crude holding an assortment of ninja type stars from which will proppel out of his hand...his hand only has two fingers leaving a big enough gap for the stars to come out of. Oh and he is mostly all tech, only his head is the organic part so you can think of his as a type of robocop of the ninja world. the swords are held within his forearm mostly andprotrude form his elbows so he can keep a free hand for climbing etc. The whole grudgy type theme for his armour helps me see the level he will be in the game, now I know he most probably will be in an industrial type of japanese tech level due to ninjas mostly keeping there clothes/armour relevant to there surroundings . anyway you get the idea, use good reference for the starting point, yes sure you can draw it straight from your head but unless you have been studying anatomy for a LONG time you will probably get some things wrong and I believe it takes a number of years untill you can effectively produce good anatomy taking in the shadows and light from your imagination alone. Anyway enough of my mindless babble, theres your 2 cents
Sean
