Request thread: game modelling trees
Does anyone have any tutorials relating to creating low poly trees. Oh maybe anything on how to create branch textures. Im useless with organic stuff!!
Im trying to create specially fir trees that would have pines instead of leaves. So any ideas? Please? |

These might help also,
3DTotal Tutorials 3d Tutorial 3DTotal Tutorials Only the first one is really a low poly tutorial, but with the palm tree it would be easy to make a low poly model as well and then bake the normal, shadow and alpha maps from the high poly. Not sure how well that method would work with a fir tree or a similar tree though. |

Well, if you want super low poly trees (200-300 tris) then look here:
Andy Zibits - Low Poly Tree Tutorial I have sucessfully used this method in a team Unreal2004 complete convertion mod. Only thing that I discovered that wasn't mentioned is that the tree's "canopy" cannot be seen from below. Solution: Copy the canopy (this does increase the tri count), lower it just a hair under the original and flip the normals. Here is a link to the trailer for the team mod: Escape from Ithuria We used a lot of the trees in the level and they turned out well. Hope it helps.
