Ok sample is up.(You normally use a side or top view but this is just for demonstration purpose)
This can be very handy when you have to model for example a highly detailed aircraft , with lots of detail on the blueprints. Where max is limited to 512² or f your lucky 1024² this allows you to show much larger images. And not hard to use either ![]() |

Well, although I can clearly see what you are aiming for (high res blueprints in viewport), I doubt that it'll do any good. You're using DX shaders for this, which in my case (and as far as i know in anybody's case) ruins the ability to use Ctrl-Z in max. I'd rather use low res 1024 blueprints, than curse every time i have to way untill my computer responds after i pressed CTRL-Z.
![]() However, there's a big positive side to i think. If it works for blueprints then it works for textures to. So, this would mean that one can see the actual texture resolution on his model. This is something i'd definitely appreciate ![]()

It doesn't have a delay with ctrl+Z , im using shader material not the 'show DX in viewport' option in the default material. It can be used for models also. Here are some other shaders . Though mine is based on a default shader in Max . These are much more advanced: they allow normalmaps and textures + spec to be show in your viewport. Worth checking out. The CTRL+Z slowdown, for me, only happened with Max9, and you can get around that by using proper DX9 shaders rather than the ones that come with Max.
Max 8 had no slowdown and neither does Max 2008, afaik, and everything's running as smooth and nice as ever. The only other thing I can offer to this thread is that your textures are probably all low res in the viewport because you haven't maxed out the texture settings in the viewport properties. It's the first thing I change when I install from scratch, and my textures are always as sharp as possible: Max>Customise>Preferences>Viewports>Configure Driver: Check both "Match Bitmap Size As Closely As Possible" boxes ![]() Last edited by glynnsmith; 01-05-2008 at 02:40 PM. |
