Unhappy Gmax to Wings3D Error

Whenever I export a plane or any mesh with removed faces, Wings doesn't like it:

The object I used in the above test is made of 2 cube-ish meshes and one plane.

Don't know if this affects the object if I export it or if its just Wings?
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong, if this is fixable?

Because of the way Wings is constructed, it cannot handle "open" Meshes (which is a real shame, as it is extremely unlikely for that feature to be implemented). The blue material you are seeing is a kind of workaround to that. The material is called "hole" and by default transparent blue. Every Face with this material assigned will not be exported, thus giving you the opportunity to export open meshes. You can probably hide those faces during modeling, then make them visible again and assign the "hole"-mat before exporting the mesh to 3ds or obj.
So making open meshes in Wings is quite possible, restrictions apply though. For example you can never have the polygons of such a mesh two sided.

edit: actually the name is "_hole_". Just have a look in the outliner.

That's the reason I completely stopped using Wings 3D for anything. It's inability to manipulate 3D geometry with full options makes it very difficult to work with certain types of models.
