Question 3ds Max to unreal

Hi All

Do I need to install any particular plugins to be able export models from 3ds max for use in the unreal editor/engine?

Thanks

Nope, .ase. You'll need the actorx plugin for animated meshes, though.

You may wish to add the faceFX plugin if you wish to use faceFX assets as well. I hear collada works just as well though.

Collada works fine, but you have to fully re-import the mesh each time it's updated. That gets a right pain, especially if you have a lot of materials applied to the model.

I believe with the .ASE stuff you can just right click and reload from file like you can with textures.

Not a specialist but this way it worked for me.

Just make your model in 3D max and add a texture.

Then select your work and choose "export selected" then save it as ASE.

Then open up the UT editor and bring up the generic browser.
Import your texture and make a material. Keep in mind the name you
give the material. Then import the model and your done.

Hope it helps....
