Inserting hole into mesh for SubD
There was a video tutorial last year that explained a couple different ways of inserting a hole into a mesh without booleans. For the life of me, I cannot find it and was wondering if anyone has a link to it?

reverse this dude's peg and you have a circular hole:
per128.com : 3D tutorials Grant Warwick/Sathe had some videos but I'm not sure where to find them. They were on CGChain but they got yanked, he was going to stick them up on the Area but I don't know if they're there yet. |

Nicely done Autocon, my way's a little different, but pretty much achieves the same result (made this before I saw your post :P).
I remember learning this method from a video ages back that I mentioned earlier, so I pretty much follow the same procedure from memory, anyhow, here's the vid: Hole punching into an awkward surface - subD I am also demonstrating some Modo tools here that make doing tasks like this easier . However, if you're a somewhat experienced modeller, you will be able to understand what's going on regardless of the application used .Last edited by Pankake; 29-04-2009 at 11:20 PM. |

another good technique is to create a spline circle with subdiv'/interpolation of 1 (eight sides is considered the lowest you want to aim for for a perfect circle. and then go into front/side top viewport and then using the cut tool with vertex snap on, you can cut a perfect circle!
