DarkNemos, if you put on your clevertrousers and looked in Xoliuls signature, you would find a link to his shader there.

First of all,thank you Xoliul,the best viewport shader ever seen

But I have a question,why if I have 3 lights,only the omni_1 affect the scene?!!

now I am using 3ds max 2009 with a Geforce 8800GT 512

Hi Xoliul;

first of all thanks for sharing this very handy and useful shader,
I tried it in 3ds 9 and then in 2009, and there is a little bug with it :



This problem occurs both in SM3 and SM2 mode with your shader. (although I've updated my HD 4870 graphic card driver).

Now, the wish list :
1. could you add a 2-sided face option ?
2. is it possible to set more than two shadows in order to get a better shadow blur ?

Probably an ATi bug, if you're not doing anything wrong.

2-sided is not so hard, you can do it yourself by edting the technique code, chenging cullmode=cw to cullmode=none.
More than 1 shadow I can't do, the shader explodes in number of instructions and texture samplers, making it simply not compile.

That's an ATI bug yeah, I've got the same card and it does that whenever I open a scene with the shader in it. It usually gets fixed if you add in a new object like a simple plane.

Thanks for your advices, I deleted the turbine model reimported it in the scene and reapply the Xoliul's shader, and it works ! Even if the shadow glitch is back when the shadow omni is to near the model... But at least I can deal with it !

Concerning the shadow blur, Xoliul, I was speaking about a "shadow sample parameter" that would be welcome to enhance more the rendering quality (like a soft shadow support)...

I really can't do anything more with the shadows. I actually sample the shadow 4 times already, going up to 8 will grind most computers to a halt (not to mention boost shader compile times through the roof), simply because the shadow function Autodesk provides is extremely slow. You'd need to have at least a GTX280 to get it to work decently and with the number of people having issues due to hardware, I don't want to make matters worse.
