Ye, crazybump's a great app, but the nvidia plug will do at certain times.
It's always better to model a highpoly and bake rather than generating it off a heightmap though. Cheers!

Thanks for the response. I'm starting to learn about some of that, but my 2D skills are painfully out-weighing my 3D skills, given the years I've spent in Web Design and Graphic Design when I should have been in Game Design. :P
Still lurking and learning! You guys are great resources. |

In order to view the Normal Map in Maya simply go to the view port of choice click the renderer menu and switch to "High Quality Rendering" and you're good to go. Creating a point like or something of the nature and moving it around the object helps quickly show the maps effectiveness.
Great tut I really appreciate the input for getting stronger looking maps, I was getting tired of the "clay" look myself =). |

.pdf format
hey guys, I've created a .pdf format of these tutorials so you can save it on your computer. Some of the images wouldn't load up so I added as much as I could. If you guys have any problems let me know. I hope this helps everyone on the forum.

Thanks kaze, that's a really good idéa actually. However, as this tutorial is a bit outdated, I'm going to rewrite it. I'll be putting it up in pdf format too, to share on GA and my portfolio, along with more tutorials to come

Tiros - I found this while searching the web for resources on texturing, really nice tutorial thanks a lot man! Especially like the technique you use for creating the spec map, showed some of my friends and they were quite impressed by how it turned out

Ah, ye, this thing's really old now, and my diino account has been suspended as they started to charge for the service. But I'll just attach it here. Not sure how good it is anymore though

Avoid Crazybumb at all cost for specular maps tbh, it's a great app for normal maps, but the specular map created by CB only looks good in the CB viewport. Photoshop is still the way to go imo...
Actually, read the tutorial in the OP, it's all there ![]() |
