Problem with shader for 3D max to view bump etc. in viewport
Hey there mates,
i have a serrious problem with displaying my maps in the viewport. To be exact what i need is a shader that lets me display the normal, opacity, bump, normal, specular and of course diffuse map in the viewport so that i don't have to render each time i wanna see my work. Don't quite understand how i am supposed to do that. When i click on "DX Display of Standard Material" in the material editor, i keep getting a red triangulated wireframe of my 3D model. I was reading here on the forum that this might be because of an old graphic card but i have a 8800 GT with 512 MB, so this should not be the problem. When i apply a direct x 9 material, it doesn't work either. I also downloaded "shader FX" but it is asking me to apply a "*.fx" file but i don't know where this one is supposed to be located. I thought that it comes with a fx file when i installed it.. ![]() I really don't know what else to do and i would much appreciate some advise here Regards, rascal |

Well, the same thing usually happens for me as I open a project with realtime rendering, but only for about 2 seconds... then it renders it out correctly.. or well, except from some issues with the alpha.. the alpha kind of works, but also hides anything behind the alphamapped area.
Hmm, not sure what the problem is here though... Have you gone to Customize > Preferences > Viewport And then made sure the setting are correct in the "Choose Driver/Customize Driver" options? And if you got a new computer or recently installed the new graphics card.. make sure it's properly installed ![]() Cheers

.fx files contain the code that is used to render your object realtime. The red triangles are typical for errors in those fx files. Like tiros suggested, make sure that your driver is set to Direct3D, i they aren't already. I did a quick test, and both OpenGL and "Software" support hlsl diffuse maps, but nothing more. So in a way the red lines aren't comming from the wrong drivers. (however, just to be completely sure).
To make sure your fx file isn't messed up, try to load some different fx files from the folder that comes with max. (if you've set a directX material, you can just pick another fx at the top of the settings.) If that doesn't work, see if max's material editor shows you an error code (it should be located where you set your maps and stuff) |
