How to store grayscale (offset map) in normal map alpha in *Photoshop*?

Google didn't help.

I can't seem to figure out how to put a grayscale image for the offset map/displacement map in the alpha map channel of a normal map, which is 32-bit, TGA.

I checked the channels, and can of course delete/add an alpha channel at will, but how to I make the grayscale image the alpha channel in Photoshop?

I know it's probably simple. I normally just import it into an editor separate, but some engines, you have to have it stored with the normals map to work.

You can just copy paste it into the alpha channel in PS. Although you might need to make it a greyscale image before you copy it, i'm not realy sure about that last part.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY it worked. I had tried the grayscale trick, but didn't try it with the copy-and-paste.

So just for future reference for anyone else, convert the black/white dispplacement / offset map to a grayscale image (or "greyscale" if you're in the UK ) and paste it on the alpha channel under the Channels tab.

Seems simple, but I was making it difficult, like usual.

Thanks Doylle!
