3D Studio Max Troubleshooting

Hey guys I have a bit of a problem with Max... thats to say, I am lacking the proper cursor for moving verts, edges, etc (with the Yellow, Green and Blue arrows). I seem to get this cursor Which requires me to go to the edge/vert and drag from there.

The image here is an example. The first one is the cursor I want, the second one is what I have. If it helps. Im running a 30 day trial version of 3D Studio Max 2008

So yeah, if any of you Max whiz kids out there can help, it would be much appreciated.

I think every new max user goes through this, I know I did and it drove me nuts for a while until I realized what it was.
