Normal Map help

tried baking a normal map with maya

but i keep getting this wierd lines at the edges so anyone know how to fix that?

Looks like your smoothing groups are messed up...have you softened the edges on your model? What are you baking in?

Check edge smoothing and check your envelope.

You can put a unique smoothing group to your whole low poly model, then generate the normal map with this model, and all the facets may be gone

..."have you softened the edges on your model?" oh XD only softned the faces didnt know i have to soften the edges as well >_<

@ torch ^^ yeah did a bit of reading, yeah i forgot to adjust the normals on the edges, i had to go to edit polygons set normal angle to 180 for the edges before baking the high to the low poly

not next question how do i do the same process in 3dmax hmmm

Both are same. soften edges is Maya's function and
Smoothing groups is Max's Function. both works same in the end.
