Texturing help

Hey, this is my first post! I need a bit of help texturing a high poly model I created in Blender. Below is the partly textured render of it.

I'm having a bit of trouble on a couple of things:

1) Is there any way I can make the blood look more realistic?
2) I like the texture on this model: (http://www.game-artist.net/forums/wo...ult-rifle.html) and I'd love to know how to make it that style.

If anybody has any tips, they're much appreciated.

Thanks!

for the blood, if it is supposed to be fresh then increase the specularity on the blood and bump map(normal map) the blood a bit. give it a raised feeling it to like droplets.

as for the style... well ART style his is sci-fi and this is just a modern fire-ax. so unless u want to remodel or retexture the whole thing to make it look futuristic, there isn't much that can be done. but if u mean get the same render effects, then just increase the number of lights in the scene to help show off the shapes and normal mapping. also if u look closely at salman's gun, the brightest light coming from the left has a slight yellow hue to it. not every light is just plain white. also u may want to decrease the intensity of all the lights except the main one or two. it'll definitely help show off the curves of the handle.

hope this helps!

Thanks. The blood is supposed to be dried, so I couldn't make it too bright. I haven't actually got a specular/normal map yet, but I'll work on making them. I'll try with lighting too.

Thanks!

Got a bit of work done on the textures, added a bit of wear on the blade end. Any other tips from anyone?

Hey irish,

i would go away from that brand-new look-a-like, cause its always a bit boring. Try to add some rust to your blade, and make the rusty parts very dark in your spec to get a nice contrast on your metal parts (eye-catching areas).

The handle also looks to perfectly new. You should add (at least) some tiny cracks and spots where the varnish is gone and you can see the bare wood underneath. If you support this with some nice normal details you'll come along with a lot more interesting handle.

For the lights: Just google "3 point lighting" which is one of the most used lighting-setups for presenting stuff...in CG case as well as in movies or advertising.

Thanks for the help. I'm not too good at normal and specular maps, so that's probably an area I can improve to add more detail. I'll add some rust and see how it looks. About the handle, I googled a 'fire axe' and used the handle of one of the images. I'm not sure if these ones are actually made of wood.

Thanks for the links, I'll check them out!
