UDK: Black Lights, Negative lights problem.
Hi guys when I try to use negative ligthing to make areas of my scene darker it works on static mesh but not BSP, as in the walls and floor it makes no effect at all, I been playign with the light settings and played with all the BSP object properties but just can't seem to effect the BSP objects in the same way as the static meshes.
Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks. Edit: Actually it's weird, some static meshes are not being effected either, I'm not sure if an issue with lightmaps or what not, but BSP have very limited options and properties in that regard and it's still not working on them. I've been told to enable bDynamic=True, but can't find that option it might have been renamed? I want to add black lights around my scene to darken some parts further. Any ideas? EDIT: It seems that negative lighting is not workong on Lightmapped objects, So static vertex based objects are getting darkened but not Lightmapped ones, Because BSP is auto lighmapped it does not work, anyone know how to enable this to work with lightmaps or a work around? Thanks. Last edited by Blazed; 28-01-2012 at 02:16 PM. |

I've never heard of using 'negative' lighting in UDK, I just tried it on a scene and it seemed to have the same effect as simply disabling the light, once the lighting was built. Couldn't you just lower the brightness on the point lights, use a low ambient colour and choose which static mesh is lit by which light using the lighting channels toggles?
For dynamic lighting its under Light> Light Component> Cast Dynamic Shadow under a lights properties. Hope that helps a bit |

Was just trying to darken some specific parts of the scene and thought i could control it better if i had a specific negative light in the spots rather than darkening the original lights as an overall effect.
There is a negative light function with UDK but not 100% sure how it works, anyway and I'm just trying to acheive a similar effect with my current lights. Thanks anyway! |
