Curved Surface Edge Count
![]() ![]() Tri Count : 8500 1. Is the number of edges I have on curved surfaces to much? 2. What if I wanted to make the battery a separate model, would I have to make it have its own seperate texture files, or would I just use the same material for the battery model as the weapon... but then every time you see the battery in game it will load the whole weapon material... seems bad either way, what should I do?

Hey,
With curved surfaces its only really the silhouette of the shape that matters so on cylindrical shapes where you can see the ends (ie the top parts on your model) need to be higher than cylindrical shapes where you cant (ie the handle). Of course it also depends on its use, whether its going to be right in front of the camera or not. I'm assuming this is a first person weapon, if so definitely consider reducing the number of polys on the handle, but the tops parts look fine to me for a fps. Regarding your texture question I would say definitely give the battery its own texture map (you'll be able to make it much smaller than the other) if it is a separate model. There no point loading in a big texture map every time if only a small portion of it is used. Hope this helps! Ed |
