3ds max to Maya; how hard is the switch?

Hey all,

I am planning on going to a new school (HKU, in the netherlands) and they work with Maya. I've gotten about 3 and a half year of experience with 3ds max and wonder how hard to switch will be to Maya.

If someone got a great tutorial which will help the switch, it'd love to see it .

Suraci.

It's not too bad at all as long as you have people experienced with maya that can help you out. You will find you have ways of working that you get used to in max but the exact same tool will not be in maya. So you then need to figure out a slightly different way of doing things in maya.

Overall maybe two weeks to a month and you will be and you will be pretty affecient in it.

It does have some good tools, the snapping is far better then max but the moment gizmo is not so good although it might be far better in newer versions of maya. I'm stuck using maya 7 because the studio I currently work for is too bloody cheap to upgrade.

Thanks, and luckily I got some people at my internship that used to work with Maya. I might rush through some tutorials and hopefully I'm up and running within 3 weeks .

However, I ended up with a new problem (Somehow a bit the same with 3ds max, but much worser..)
My whole laptop freezes whenever I start up Maya, I have tried out the 32 and 64 version. Downloaded the hotfixes etc, but still.. completely freeze. (both 2012 versions)

I have been trying to download a patch for my video-card but the website is saying I don't have the right version.

If someone could help me with this, it'll mean everything to me x).

PC spec if needed.

AMD Phenom(TM) II N970 Quad-core processor @ 2.20 GHZ
4GIG ram
64 bit
AMD Radeon 6600M and 6700M (3gig)

Note: If I need to get into my Bios for some reason, it's in Chinese.. :| I bought this laptop when I had my internship over there so hopefully it's a lame video-card update I'm seeing over my head.

EDIT: Fixed, it was a hard thing to find but somehow I managed to find an update for my graphic card. Took me a good day >.<
