Question about modelling a rifle.
Hello all!
First off all, I'm new to Game Artist, have been a quest for a while so I decided to make an account .Now, I am planning on modelling a high poly / low poly rifle (The SCAR-16S) I have found quite some reference for this gun (High res, yey) but I am stuck on some parts and wonder if anyone could help me. http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/5209/scar16s.jpg I haven't done this many times before so some tips or tricks will be very helpfull. ~Suraci. EDIT: My main issue is the best way to model those circels. Everytime I try to make it I end up with a massive polyweb on a tiny spot or it just doesn't look good cause of the final smoothing. If someone has a tutorial or his own experience I'd love to see/read them ![]() Last edited by Suraci; 25-11-2011 at 07:53 AM. |

Use primitives to block it out and if your building a high poly for baking you can always have floating geometry.
![]() Quick wires to get an idea, no supporting edgeloops, and not high base geometry count since its quick, When in doubt, use more geometry as a base. |

Modeling circles gets easier if you understand that a perfect 4-sided square smooths to a perfect circle. You can use certain faces to extrude, which will form circular holes. Keep your support edges in mind as well.
In any event, be sure to use this page as a reference as you can learn very much about hard surface modeling in this one thread alone: FAQ: How u model dem shapes? Hands-on mini-tuts for mechanical sub-d AKA ADD MORE GEO - Polycount Forum

Thanks Polygoblin, I'll keep that in mind.
I'm trying to get this high/low poly modelling under the hand cause I used to do mainly low poly. And whenever I wanted to try to make a high res model I just ended up with a blur of edges (Plus it didn't look that good x) ). I'll probably try to start this weekend, dunno how it'll end but who cares . Practise ftw. |
