Particle effect tutorial Maya
Hello all
This morning I was playing Medal of Honor Pacific Assault. Somethings keep amazing me about that game. Then I came across a level in the jungle with a river going through and stubbled apon a small settlement where the japs had a small radio. When I destroyed it there was smoke coming out of it and from that point I was asking myself: How do they do it? ![]() So I was wondering if there are tutorials for Maya on how to make game particle effects? From texturing, modelling to the actual particle system. Thanks in advance |

This is fast and high performing
Dynamics and Particle Effects, Part 1 - Intel® Software Network - Intel® Software Network
I found the article above when I was working on my demo material and it really helped me. Plus the woman who wrote the article does a lot of other nice work. Its a good intro to scripting for maya. She demonstrates how to get a very accurate representation in real-time while still keeping a lot of control over the smoke when rendering. I hope this is helpful. |

If you looking for game specific particle effects I'd check out the engines. UDK has it's own build in particle creation tool called cascade that works with sprites. I've found this much easier to get my head around than Maya's particles systems.

There will be 3 different stages for the radio, probably as follows;
1) collision box around the object which will allow the player to collide with the undamaged or damaged radio 2)the radio will be flagged with a surface type, more like likely metal, which when shot will produce a bullet decal, some sparks and maybe debris and a slight bit of smoke 3)the radio will have multiple damage states so it will have an undamaged and then a damaged level which when a bullet hits and it registers contact with the collision mesh the surface type effect will play and it will change the model out for the damaged version and play the effect attached to it. Hope this helps ![]() |
