[3ds max] Head UVW mapping problem

Hi this is my first proper post on the forums, jus hoping to get a little help with a problem I've got with a head Im attempting to texture. let me explain, Id modelled, unwrapped and started the texture without a problem, then I went back to the unwrap in 3DS max and altered the UVs ( to separate the hair UVs from the rest of the head to avoid stretching, after doing this i moved the head Uvs up, on the map). Then once I had rearranged the texture to fit the new UVs, I placed this new texture on the model and now when ever I render I get these weird lighter areas on the model which appear to be where the original UVs were.
The lighter areas show up in the material editor but not from the normal view or in the UVW unwrap edit window. Ive checked the original texture and tried making a new material but cant fix it. Help!

In this pic you can see the lighter areas which are the same shape as the eyes, just a little lower. This is wher the eyes used to be on the original UV map. They dont show up in the normal view.

The render:

Cheers,
hope someone can help!

Can you post a screen shot of your UV editor window with the texture turned on and the wire selected?

Looks like something has slipped with your UV mapping but its hard to tell from just the model

thanks for your reply.
here is the pic of the uv editor

Since first posting I have gone back to a previous save of the head and attempted moving the UVs in the editor and had the same problem. the lighter areas seem to be the areas that did not have UVs or texture on them before, e.g the eye holes or areas around the head, if you know what I mean.
This is a problem I havnt encountered before and the only way I can seem to get around it is by leaving the UVs exactly as they were (with lots of stretching on the top and back of head).
Thanks for your time,
E
