I thought the same thing, these Japanese devs seem to be quite ahead of a lot of western developers, really unbelievable.
I wanted to try XSI myself on Ubuntu Linux (I was like yay there's XSI for Linux!), but turns out their linux support is very, very narrow as they support only one distro officially. And I don't really want to use anything else than Ubuntu.

well you'd be surprised. Japanese developers are indeed good, but they are not perfect. Its juts a different culture and work ethic, and they do some insane crazy hours.

Regarding XSI and Linux, its simply a question of demand really. There simply is not a demand for XSI user on the Ubuntu distro as most professional users run RedHat or Fedora Core. With so many Linux distros out there, it almost impossible to keep up. XSI woudl probably run, but any Ubuntu related problems would be probably unsupported.
