I hope it's not that... From what I know GeForce4 doens't support normal maps... If you have something like that or an older one... this is probably the reason.

Previously, I did everything in Maya, but I had never done anything with normal mapping in Max. Being that I have to work in Max now, it was time to learn! Tonight, I tried out this tutor, and within 20 minutes I had normal mapped dice! Easy to follow tutor overall, though I was a little confused with all those settings. Either way, works great! Thanks for posting this.

Yes... it looks like this is it. But just to be sure check on the web to see it your graphic card supports normal maps... You don't want to buy a new one and find out it wasn't that

great tutorial mate, one thing you need to mention is you need your viewport display drivers to be directX to have the directX option in the material editor. i was using openGL and was looking at my material editor scratching my head trying to find that rollout. then i figured it out, so yeah. thanks for the easy to understand methods.

Sorry for that. It was on my TODO list but I didn't have time to include it. I'll update this as soon as possible.
EDIT: Done! Some pics will come soon to be easier to understand for people that are doing this for the first time ![]()
