I particularly like your portfolio Andrei, all it shows is your work, and that's all it needs!.

The contact info could be a bit bolder or at the top, but that's about it, really.
The thumbnails are small, but they show enough to know what it is, and that's what matters, I think what Chris was ranting about there was when the thumbnail show just a trigger of a gun or a partial shoe of a character, I know what your work looks like before I even open the image.

I doubt you need to cover every single detail of this article. But when you have most of them covered I'm sure you'll get a nice enough portfolio as it is.

Can work if you want to view it fast... but... don't know... not really professional, or is it? I still need to think a lot about this... or maybe I just need to make more art and stop thinking about those little things like the dimension of my thumbnails and the font of my email address
Yeah, I may just follow suit and do a "View All" link myself for the 2d and 3d sections, having the option can't hurt.

sorry if this is covered somewhere in the discussion, i had a scan through but didnt see it

What do you guys think, or do you know what the industry thinks about offering an 'offline version' of your portfolio when people are on there?

While I've been working on my own i thought it'd be a handy option if a prospective employer was able to download it to his/her desktop for future reference, or to offer additional content which would slow the web site down when running on the fly (ie massively high res/detailed image files, obj's of models etc)

but then at the same time i'm thinking, is it really worth their time to download such a thing if they're on there anyway? And what if they download it and only use that as a reference to your work, thus never seeing any updated images and content?

Do you think its a decent option to give people, or could it be more damaging in the long run?

I suppose it cant really hurt to include that option, although I can imagine an employer is more likely to just save a few images that he wants to keep rather than download your entire site

yeah i guess

perhaps just a rar collecting all the images in one file so they can download all the work easily would be a better option

I'm pretty sure developers wont bother downloading your site. Everything needs to go fast, they'll have you judged after a few images and decide to continue or not, depending on how they like the work presented.

Funny... just before I had that View all link I had a Download rar file but I felt it didn't work and had a better idea: the View all link I also don't believe that people will bother downloading everything. Just make sure you have your link in every image. If there's something there that he likes he will save that and later when he looks for someone he can find his way back to your site and view what he wants... Or at least that's what I think

The offline portfolio most employers seem to want is a demo reel
