Try using winrar, I never have any problems opening compressed files.

Hmm, seems like I'll be the one to start this then

This is the first "Realistic" piece I've done in ages! Always went for some kind of semi-cartoony/fantasy'ish style on everything

Didn't finish, never had time to do all the signs as I planned on, and as they're rushed they turned out pretty crappy, which really lets down the whole piece imo. But, better luck next time I guess.

Cheers!

Umm, I'm sure this is a very dumb question, but how do you get the textures to show for the screenshot? I always thought you needed to render your object in order to see the diffuse, spec, and normal maps.

If your in 3dmax you can hit the 'render texture in viewport' button in the material editor. If your in Maya you can just hit 6 to show textures.

Machacha8: Just use Doylle Viewportshader if it's max you're using, for maya.. whatever Soulis said

Bobbeh: Rather than opening the file, you should import it to your 3d app

Hi. I'm new here and have been texturing for about a 2 months. I figured that I should enter the contest to learn more about texturing. If I'm doing something wrong please tell me. I would really like to further my skills in texturing seeing as its something I'm passionate about.

Anyways, I was pressing on time and I had to through together the normal maps and specular maps at the last moment.

I created a base steel layer pretty much that would rely on everything else. Then I just furthered and painted on the details. Rust and scratches were custom brushes I made so not much work there. Pretty much a relatively easy texture to make. Just took some time.

My entry:

Maps:

Time: 90 Minutes
Maps Used: Diffuse, Specular, and Normal
