I voted for Fleistad i really dug the addition of the duct tape, it made the object have a bit of life, and the feeling of being used, without going to the standard of just scratches like everyone else did. also the scratch placement is good, and not to heavy handed. it also takes into consideration how objects actually get scratched on corners and high points like in real life.

The only thing i would have liked to seen was some branding or logos on the wrench, and perhaps a bit more wear up by where the teeth of the wrench are to show some damage of being used over the years.

great job to everyone i know i learned a few new tricks while doing this one, i and i hope you all did too.

great stuff. as always for beginners comparison should be very useful for training.

it also makes clear how important a quality lighting & render setup is. same with sharpness and jpg compression! (as an example: Nistrum´s entry... unfortunately its way too blurry (and low quality jpg), beside the need for a better lighting setup already mentioned in the thread, otherwise i think it could be one of the better entries)

another crit: imo it makes not much sense to put the vertical aligned object in a horizontal rectangle... (first image)

Well, it's really nothing wrong with using jpeg-files.. I always do it for these comps.. one might want to consider reducing the compression though

<Rant>

In addition, I'd like to add that I really don't like seeing png-files on the submissions, they take up unnessecary space for something that could look as good as with a jpg.. surely one wouldn't be more convinced by the minimal difference in quality, opposed as to a better looking texture.

</Rant>

As for my vote.. hmm.. would've gone to DrLenny if it weren't for the overly grungy handle. So Fleistad got my vote.

Cheers!

I like Fleistad's the most but it could've been a lot better without the duct tape.

Hi everyone, first off AMAZING WORK FROM EVERYONE!!! as soon as i clicked on this competetion and saw the first screenshot i was like ZOMG! beautiful real life textures from everyone!!!

Now as everyone did so great, it comes to one choice, i chose this person as out of everything ive seen Spider2544 had even the writing of the make indented into the middle of the wrench, which i thought thats so easily forgetful, as in the old days most wrenches did have indented text on their wrenches! so kudos to you my friend! well done everyone!

Actually, I quite fancy the duct tape, it adds both contrast and interesting variation to it

Why someone put it there? That's something you're not gonna be asking yourself while you're runnin' around banging it in peoples head in some kind of fps game. Or you're overly analytic

Cheers!

Well to me, the duct tape gave the object some HISTORY and character, which helps to make it a real life object, not just another stand-in prop.

Yea people often put bits of tape on stuff like that. Say you are working on something and pull a bit of tape off, it’s not uncommon to put it on a tool you are carrying to get rid of it.
