Well, here's my next attempt at finally beating X-convict
![]() I went with a rusty old thing too, perhaps a little generic. Somewhat inspired by fallout. Left the UVs as they were and bakes a shadowmap in maya. This one was done using a lot of rust textures and moss textures on a "blend if" setting over generic wood and metal textures from cgtextures.com. Once again I spent too long on the diffuse. I rushed through the spec map by just recoloring, and for the normal map I used the nvidia tool. I did put a little more time into the normal map than last time, which makes for nicer wood and more dented metal. Sadly I ran out of time so I couldn't tweak those horizontal gaps in the box to look nicer. Rendered in mental ray. ![]() Renders ![]() |

Haha, Jstrey:
I was wondering if anyone was going to do the R2D2 mailboxes - I saw loads of pictures of the real ones on the internet Good job!Looks like you used parts of your previous texture in this one?

wvanh - that is badass dude! Fallout is a great inspiration (definitely one of mine) A couple things that stand out to me are those vertical lines which I think you mentioned on the mailbox and the rust normals on the shot on the right look like it's pretty flat with the normals going inwards and on the left side of the render the bump looks very mushy and the dark lines stick out a lot. Other than that looks great
