Another vote for fleistad, and a thank you for showing that clean and simple can be very effective.

Gekko: Yes, people have been pretty intense with the sculpting part lately. Though I can't really blame them, I fully understand them.

Not only are they learning a cool app (ZBrush or Mudbox) but they also gain knowledge which might prove quite useful in the gaming-industry. It's also a lot of fun.. and now that Crazybump is a complete application and requiring a license, people start thinking it might be a good thing to both save money while gaining knowledge at the same time.

Cheers!

I had to vote for x-convict because of the way the detail and the sharpness of the texture blend well together. I didn't get time to do an entry myself but with the quality of the entries i didn't need to.

Really great entries!

well for me it was between fleistad and x-convict, but i think the detailing on the sword and the blade metal decided it for me so x-convict gets my vote.
good job everyone though.

Absolutely agree and I don't blame them either. I my self am 'trying'(when I can find the time) to learn zbrush for that same reason. ( btw, if any one knows any links for good video tutorials for beginners I would be very great full! ta).

I just meant that from time to time its good to have a comp that encourages hand painting textures with more detail rather than relying on sculpting for the details. I like to see how well people can paint textures in the time limit rather than sculpting a normal map.

Also its give those that arn't so advanced with the sculpting a chance to compete.
I have said it before but I actually think it would be great to have another comp that is just for sculpting. That would be cool imo.

cheers

Ah, that's true. Btw, if you're looking for tutorials you could try out these, they're really helpful and taught me the app in only a few hours

ZBrushCentral - Video Lessons In Zbrush (cannedmushrooms style)

The downside with them though is that you'll have to download an app called Veoh TV to watch them, and you can't watch the whole movies on the webpage, they're just short verisions. So once you got Veoh, you have to hover the video, and a small bar will appear in the top with the link "Watch full verison" or something like that.

Then you'll be directed to the Veoh homepage, and after that, you'll have to click some button there again to start the movie in the app you got, and see the full verison.

Sorry for the half-arsed explanation, but I don't quite remember how it was

Cheers!

I voted for X-convict, the sheer realism here took my vote, loving the different hues and you know you're colour theory...care to explain how you did it? thanks!

X got my vote. I love his work and this entry is no different. I like the attention he gave to the entire model but must say I was loving the hilt the most.

Thanks for the kind words guys. I might have gone a little crazy with the intensity of the blade but it's just a few quick edits if it were a material made for a game. It's got a couple lights on it in the in-engine model viewer, but stronger than it would be in most in-game lighting situations.

Gekko: I'm with you on keeping these non-sculpting challenges going, there's still a lot of non-character work that is made without sculpting on a daily basis so keeping your skills strong in that department is a definite plus. I do 90% of my normal maps at work baked from high poly meshes, so when I read I only had 90 minutes to do all 3 textures, I actually attempted to model a high out of habit, but realized it would be more quickly and efficiently done just painted.

3rdman: I got a lot of my colour from overlaying textures on top of my details and using their different hues w/ modifications to obtain my desired look. There is a badass rust texture I've been using since around the time I started texturing models 7 or so years ago, on nearly everything I do to gain different colour and even texture variation, by modifying it to what I need, and then with the colour spec map I try to push the colors i'm looking for in there as well. If you're interested just shoot me a PM and I can dig up the texture and send it to you (along with anyone else that wants it)

Tats: Hey dude, it's good to see you around here! Thanks for the vote my man.
